Description
Here is a stunning Georgian Hanoverian pattern sterling silver soup ladle made by the London silversmith Alexander Johnston. This piece is marked with the date letter ‘f’ for 1761, along with a leopards head mark for London and the lion passant, denoting sterling purity. This piece is particularly interesting because it features an engraved crest depicting winged spurs. This is the Johnston family crest, so it is quite likely that this piece was made by Alexander Johnston for one of his relatives. The bowl of the ladle exquisitely chased in a shell form. This ladle is a unique find, being a Georgian unaltered Hanoverian pattern piece with its original engraved crest. The ladle measures 13-5/8” long and weighs 175 grams
