Description
Fine Japanese Imari porcelain bowl from the Meiji period (1868–1912), featuring the rare “Black Ship” motif. The central panel depicts a Dutch merchant ship firing a cannon, surrounded by a cobalt band with gilt dragons and cloud scrolls. The broad border shows pairs of Dutch traders, coats of arms, and additional ship scenes, with vibrant enamels and gilt highlights. Exterior decorated with continuous floral and scroll designs, divided by panels of ships and traders. Measures approximately 10” in diameter. A richly detailed example of Japan’s fascination with Western trade during the late Edo and Meiji periods.
